“Little Dog will be just fine. I’ll even give her some water.” I nodded, satisfied he wasn’t going to try to kill Vincent’s dog while I had my back turned. “Just enough to drown in.” “Scythe!” “It was a joke! Jesus, you’re as boring as Vincent is.”
“Naked yet?” “Would you go away? You better not be trying to peep through the crack.” Vincent would have never. Scythe, I already didn’t trust as far as I could throw him. “Why would I bother when I can just look at the hidden camera footage?” My mouth dropped open. “You wouldn’t!” He chuckled. “Enjoy your shower, Bliss.”
“Don’t talk about your thighs like they’re anything other than my favorite thing to get between.”
And yet here I was, flirting with a man, my dick hard with thoughts of how I wouldn’t have minded if he’d wanted to finish me off.
“How exactly do I get Vincent back?” He shrugged. “He’s left the building.” “I wish you’d leave the building.” He sniggered. “Why you gotta be like that, Bliss? I just want to be besties.”
“Have you been crying?” “No.” He folded his arms across his chest. “Fine. I’ll rephrase. Has water been falling from your eyes?” The corner of my mouth flickered up. “Maybe. But I’m fine.”
“I’m too old for this shit, Bliss.” “All the more reason to have one. It might be the last one you get to have before you kick the bucket.”
“Dammit, Scythe! What the hell? Have you heard of knocking?” I squinted at her. “I have.” “I could have been naked!” “And I would have been pleased.”
“That wasn’t very safe. You could have taken my eye out.” “And I would have been pleased,”
“Go play video games then.” “That’s for losers who can’t get laid.” She raised one eyebrow. “Sounds like you’d fit right in.”
“There’s a little psychopath in all of us. I wear mine on my sleeve. Most people keep theirs buried. You just let yours out to play for a moment.” I grinned at her. “I liked her. Psycho Bliss with blood on her hands was sexy as hell.”
“He said to tell you that while you were sleeping, he found forty-seven issues with our security, breached the fence multiple times, and that your cabin is so lacking he knows you sleep naked.” There was another pause, and then Fang’s voice came through again, clearly holding back laughter. “He’s saying you have a nice dick.”
Speaking of, do you want to maybe try closing my door the next time you sneak into my cabin to check out my cock? There was a cold breeze that killed my morning erection dead.” “Looked fine to me.” I raised an eyebrow. “You flirting with me, Vincent?”
“So, can you get it up, Nash?”
“Think of him when you come,” War demanded. “Say his name.”
War snorted on a laugh. “Oh, shit. Would you look at that. Nash was on the other side of the door.” I turned in horror to War. “Did you know?” He laughed and leaned in to kiss my cheek. “I didn’t, but you know I like an audience. No biggie.” I couldn’t face Nash. “Rebel! You too?” She cracked up laughing. “Hey, I just came to check you were okay and found these two pervs standing outside. They started it.” Scythe was no less repentant. “I need a cigarette and a cold shower. That was hot.”
“Bliss allowed to come visit me now, Dad?” “It’s Daddy to you.” War snorted. “It’s always the quiet ones. Here I am, just thinking you’re a regular, introverted sorta guy, and then you go telling me to call you Daddy.”
This thing with War and me felt like the beginnings of something I’d never had but desperately wanted. Friendship. I didn’t want it to go away. And I didn’t want to leave. Not him. Not Bliss. Not Nash, or Rebel, or the bar.
“I reckon I’d be good at blow jobs. I’ve practiced on bananas.” There was no holding on to the ball this time. I dropped it onto the lane as I cracked up laughing. We both watched my ball creep down the lane with zero pace and eventually roll into the gutter. “I hate you.” I wandered back to the ball return. “I haven’t gotten a gutter ball since I was about ten.”
“You were thinking about sucking it. You were so ready to get on your knees right now and show me exactly how good you can swallow.”
I closed my eyes when his warmth invaded me. His arm around me, locking me in place, was heavy and comforting, and my heartrate instantly slowed to a more normal pace. Every muscle in my body relaxed, inch by inch, sinking into his comfy bed and the security of his embrace. Until I realized something I really should have considered earlier. “Are you naked?” “Very.” I rammed my elbow back into his stomach. “Scythe! You could have told me.” His only response was to hold me tighter. “Shh.” He mumbled, “Go to sleep.”
“You’re such a good girl.” His teeth bit down onto my shoulder, the slight pain just enough to make me gasp. “Gonna take you now. Your pussy is so wet, I can’t wait any longer.”
“I know what you’re thinking. And you’re not leaving while I’m still inside you, Bliss. Shut your brain off for a minute and just let me hold you.”
I fell asleep in the arms of a psychopath. I had never felt safer or more content in my life.
“But somebody stole a life before it was even half over. It’s a pain I’m going to have to live with every day, as will everyone who loved him. Somebody here knows something. Maybe somebody even knows who killed him.” Nash’s fingers clenched into fists. “If that someone is you, come forward now. Say something. Because we won’t stop hunting you. We won’t forget or brush this under the carpet.”
It was done. It was final. Life would go on now, and gradually, people would stop talking about him. But there’d always be a part of me missing. And I’d have to live my life with the regrets of all the things I hadn’t said. The things I hadn’t done. The time we’d missed because I’d let him push me away.
“I’m only gonna sneak around with you so long, Bliss. It’s fun, for now. But one day soon, I’m going to kiss you in front of everyone. Including War, and your dad, and all your friends.” His lips trailed along my jawline. “You can pretend you hate me. But I know how you moan when my cock is buried in your pussy. And I know how you’re gonna scream when I do it again.”
