His anger was barely leashed when he said, “Who did this to you?” He visually inspected the bruises on her limbs, touching each one with his golden gaze. His eyes met hers, and the danger she saw there made her gasp. “It doesn’t matter,” she whispered, too scared to speak louder. He stepped even closer. “It is the only thing that matters. Tell me who did this to you, or I will raze the entire fucking town to the ground.”
“The next time someone lays a finger on you, their death belongs to me.”
“If you’d stop being a prick to her, she might end up liking you,” Sam said as he pulled an entire banana out of his pocket. “How did you fit a banana in your pants?” “My pants already carry something much larger.” Sam grinned as he peeled the fruit and took a large bite.
“I’ll miss you enough for both of us,” she whispered in his ear, and he nodded into her shoulder. “I may not remember you,” he whispered back. “But when I see your face or hear your name, my soul will know you’re good.”
“I would set this entire realm ablaze to keep you safe, and if you think I’m bluffing, you haven’t been paying attention.”
“It was inevitable. Your soul calls to mine and mine to yours. We couldn’t fight this if we tried.”
“When you realize you love me, I will drop to one knee wherever we are,” he murmured for only her to hear. She shook her head. “It won’t matter if I love you or not. I refuse to marry someone who doesn’t love me back.” His lip tugged to the side. “I will fall first, Miss Raven, and we both know it.”
“Most men want to control women.” He pushed his chair back and stood. “If you want to walk through the realm naked, you will do so, and I will admire you the entire way.”
They talked about everything they could think of until the Erdikoa sun went down, and that night as they lay in bed blanketed in post-coital bliss, Caius fell for Aurora Raven.
Turning to Caius, Rory held up the dagger. “Can I keep this?” The ghost of a smile played on his lips. “You can keep her head if you wish.” This was why they were made for each other. He understood her savagery, admired it even.
