“Can I keep you?” he murmured against her lips. She pulled back to look into his eyes. “Forever.”
Hope was a dangerous thing. It made people destroy in the name of good intentions.
“What do you see when you look at me?” “An asshole,” she replied. Her answer was immediate, and he frowned. “That was rude,” he muttered.
“How did you fit a banana in your pants?” “My pants already carry something much larger.” Sam grinned as he peeled the fruit and took a large bite.
“I knew you’d come home one day.” She narrowed her eyes. “Was that a serial killer joke?”
“You activated mother hen mode.”
“Your words are honey, but your actions reek of shit because you are full of it. No woman wants a man who treats her like an insignificant ant, not even if he is a king.”
“I would set this entire realm ablaze to keep you safe, and if you think I’m bluffing, you haven’t been paying attention.”
“It was inevitable. Your soul calls to mine and mine to yours. We couldn’t fight this if we tried.”

“I told him to wine and dine me.” “And sixty-nine,”
Being able to joke after almost dying had to be a good sign. They say trauma makes people funnier.
Everyone does bad things. Yes, some are worse than others and deserve a fate worse than death, but most are only trying to navigate life and all it throws at them.
“Most men don’t want their women dressed scandalously.” “Most men want to control women.”
“I will always come back to you.”
