I heard a sound, and the base of my neck prickled with sudden heat. I felt the pull of a different source tug at me. I turned and met the light-blue gaze I knew so well, had missed so much, and had hoped never to see again. “Hello, Kelly.”
“Don’t let the past dictate your future. Things change. People change.”
“It’s not the sand and water that make the shoot. It’s the people and the small things you can elevate with a picture.” She sighed. “Carl and I always disagreed on that. To him, it wasn’t worth taking a shot unless everything was perfect. Life isn’t perfect, and sometimes that is the beauty we have to show.”
“Home is where you can be yourself. Find rest and sanctuary. Reconnect to a life that sustains you. Recharge so you can go out and have adventures again, knowing you have a place to return to.”
I don’t want to be trapped. I’ll never clip your wings. I’m afraid to love. I can’t live without you again. I don’t want to lose you. Tell me how to keep you.
“Believe it. Charly was right. She always said I was searching. But I had no idea what I was searching for until I almost lost it. I was looking for you. You give me everything I need. I was just too afraid to admit it.” I hesitated. “I don’t want to be afraid anymore. I want to live this life—with you.” I swallowed. “If you still want that.”
He stood and lifted his glass. “To Mama and Mack. Tanti auguri per una vita felice insieme.”
