“I know, son, but death is hard for people, and you don’t really know how you’ll handle it until it happens.”
I watched him closely tonight. The peaceful look on his face. The ease of his movements, it’s so obvious he’s at home when cooking as if it’s second nature for him. It reminded me of being at home, watching my parents in the kitchen. He kind of reminds me of home. And that… is kind of scary.
“I’m a smart man, Juliet,” he whispers, his gaze dropping to my lips. “Only a fool would let you go once they had you where they wanted you.”
“For the record, that about killed me, and it was a one-time thing that will never replay itself.” His lips pull into a one-sided grin. “So next time you ask, be sure because I won’t deny you again.” “Say you swear.”
It may as well be only her and me up here. She’s all I see.
I’m in love with her, and if I’m right, which I hope to hell I am, she’s on her way to loving me right back. If she could, I’d need nothing else. Just her.
I’m already at a disadvantage, but I do have the love of a mother who showed me what it meant to be a man. To work hard and to appreciate the things I have. To love with all you are, and I do. I love her with all I am, all I’m not, and all I’ll be.
