Then, late on the night of January 10, as I lay in bed checking the news, BuzzFeed broke ranks with the rest of the media and published the dossier in its entirety. I clicked on the PDF link and started reading. It was a 35-page document compiled by a former British intelligence officer, claiming that the Russian security services possessed video kompromat of Trump watching prostitutes perform “golden showers” in the presidential suite of the Moscow Ritz-Carlton. It also alleged that Trump and his associates would receive a 19 percent stake in Russia’s largest oil company, Rosneft, (a stake worth about $13 billion at the time) in exchange for lifting US sanctions. It suggested that the Kremlin had been cultivating Trump as an asset for decades. And these were just the highlights.
