“I love you,” she repeated against his mouth, every word a croak. “I don’t want to live without you, Darien. Please—”
But no one answered. She was alone. And Darien was dead.
The Well was a part of her. It was inside of her, as vital to her existence as her beating heart.
“I am…Liliana Sophronia.”
“Dead?” he repeated. His voice was thick. “I’m not dead, baby girl. Just a little sore is all.” A hand stroked her back, igniting the fire within her that had very nearly gone out. “You saved my life.”
Darien had no words as Loren opened her arms as though they were wings—like a rainbow phoenix.
Loren’s mouth wobbled. “Yes, Darien Cassel,” she said, cupping his face. “I do love you. I’m so in love with you, it’s crazy.”
A smile flirted with his mouth. “Good. Because I love you more than anything in this world, Loren Calla.”
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted you. You light up my life, Loren Calla.”
“That is exactly why I’ve never had any intention of sharing you.”
“Look at me,” Darien said. She peeked up at him to find that he was looking down at her, his eyes as intense as they were soft. “If you need me to slow down or stop, you tell me. I’ll do whatever you need me to. Okay?”
“Look at you,” Darien breathed, pumping harder. Faster. Drawing out her pleasure until she couldn’t remember her own name. “Look how beautiful you are.”
“I love you, Darien,” she said. “I’ll love you forever.”
Darien bent to brush a kiss to her forehead. “Happy birthday, sweetheart.” She ducked her chin. “You remembered.”
“I love you,” Loren whispered, nestling into the crook of his shoulder. Darien was so tired, he didn’t so much as stir at the sound. “I’ll love you forever.”
“Then fuck me,” he said, grabbing hold of her hips again and rolling them against his. Loren nearly swore; it felt so good. “Fuck me like my life depends on it.”
