The more distance that was put between her and Darien, the less secure she felt. As if she had lost something important or was leaving a part of herself behind.
“I heard there’s this thing called a hug.” He threw aside the towel he was drying his hands with. “I’m not much of a hugger, but…” He shrugged. “It might help.”
With his arms around her, everything felt lighter. She felt safe in his grasp, like his strength was keeping the shattered pieces of herself together.
“You’re wrecking me is what you’re doing. You’re wrecking me for anyone else.”
“Yeah, I’m his,” Loren slurred, teetering in her heels. “And he’s Darien fucking Cassel.”
Her anxiety could not touch her here. Her usual awful nightmares did not show their ugly faces. With Darien beside her, her own personal dreamcatcher, she slept better than she had in years. Whether he called himself a Devil or not, he had quickly turned into her angel.
