“Don’t make me your villain,” he said,
“With the God of the Dead wrapped around your finger, you can mold the world into whatever you want it to be.”
“The only time pain truly ends is when we enter the Void after death. To live is to feel pain.”
“Why would I want to fight with you? All I want is to love you,” he murmured,
“If you are able to imagine your life, your future, without me in this world, then why would I want to live?” Caldris asked, running his other thumb over my cheekbone.
“I love you, Estrella. I have loved you for centuries and waited for you to be mine. If there is no hope, no chance of you accepting me into your heart in truth, then I will gladly allow you to be the one to end my eternity of suffering. If the last thing I see is your face, then I can go to the Void in peace.”
“I love you. In this life or the afterlife, my star. I will always wait for you.”
Why was it the woman we vilified, even when presented with the truth that the woman had been a victim of the same deception? Women needed to be better, to do better, because at the end of the day, every one of our actions could see us condemned—while men were free to fuck and murder, to steal and lie, and it was all just brushed off as another day under the sun.
Please, don’t leave me alone again. I squeezed my eyes closed, shoving back the burn of grief in my throat. Where you go, I will follow.
“You aren’t supposed to accept it,” I said, barely resisting the urge to drop the sword so I could punch him. “You’re supposed to fight me.”
“Why would I want to fight with you, my star?” he asked sadly. “I just want to love you until my last breath. You were worth every century I waited, even if I only had you for a short time.”
“I am going to love you until the stars disappear from the night sky and the sun ceases to shine. Until the world returns to the void from whence it was born and chaos reigns once again.”
