A kiss with her wouldn’t be just a kiss. It would be my fucking end.
She’d lived her whole life feeling unwanted by those closest to her. I couldn’t make her feel the same way. Not when I needed her more than my next breath, and not when I would rather cut off my arm than deny her anything.
Despite what I’d said about love being a drug, Stella was my greatest high. A temptation with no escape. An obsession with no end. An addiction with no cure.
“You’re going to be the death of me.”
“You never should’ve let me kiss you, Stella. Because one taste isn’t fucking enough.”
“I didn’t realize you noticed what I was wearing.” “I notice everything about you.”
“I love this dress on you.”
“I thought you don’t believe in love,”
“You’re right. That was the wrong word.”
“Because love is ordinary. Mundane. And you, Stella…”
“You’re extraordinary.”
“Tell me.”
“Do you want sex, or do you want to be fucked?”
“That’s it, sweetheart. You can take it.”
“You did so well,” he murmured. “Such a good girl.”
I guess that was what happened when girls with a need for academic validation grew up. They developed a praise kink.
But the more I got to know her, the more she embedded herself into my being.
She was a study in contrasts, the most fascinating puzzle I’d ever come across—strength and vulnerability, calm and chaos, innocence and debauchery.
“Tell me…” He curled a hand around the nape of my neck. “Does this feel fake to you?”
“I want to make a few things clear.” Christian’s lips brushed mine with each word. “Touch another man, he dies. Let another man touch you, he dies. Tell me I can’t touch you…” His grip tightened on the back of my neck as his voice dropped. “And I will fucking die.”
“You belong with me. Exclusively. There is not a world or lifetime where that’s not true.”
“You touched what was mine. And if there’s one thing I hate…”
“It’s people touching what’s mine.”
“I love when you beg so sweetly for me.”
“I’m a billionaire. We can do whatever we want.” I smiled at her playful eye roll. “Consider it my birthday present.”
“For someone who claims he’s not a romantic, you say the most romantic things.”
“I’m onto you, Christian Harper. Beneath that hard, cynical exterior…”
“You’re a softie at heart.”
Only for you.
I didn’t care much for art, but if I could immortalize her in that moment as a painting, I would.
“You’re overthinking again.”
“I can’t help it,”
“What are you thinking about?”
“About how this doesn’t feel real,”
“It’s too good to ...

He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for me.
“I love you,” I whispered.
“Stella…”
“I don’t deserve your love.”
“You deserve it more tha...

“It wouldn’t hurt you to wear something other than black, gray, and navy, you know.”
