Nia shrugs. “Don’t need a reason for a caper.” That’s true enough.
“They’re total opposites.” Nia keeps going. She senses weakness. “Brody wants to drive us out of Moon Lake like vermin. Cadoc would like us to be a little more discreet as we shame the pack with our mere existence.”
“You gonna lift the alpha’s car or anything today?” Bevan’s really enjoying himself.
Biology is powerful, and it sucks as a matchmaker.
“Scavengers don’t whore for rank, bitch. We whore for cash and goods.” Nia lifts her upper lip to show her descended fangs. “Only nobs are stupid enough to fuck for recognition. You can’t trade ‘he let me sit next to him at lunch’ for anything.”
She isn’t what I thought she’d be. I mean, I’d never considered the possibility of a scavenger as a mate, but if I ever had, I’d never in a million years have imagined her. She’s not submissive, but she’s not dominant. I don’t know what the fuck she is except really unimpressed by me.
Fuck Killian Kelly. I’ve heard the stories. He didn’t even recognize his mate when she went into heat.
Rosie is the stubbornest female I’ve ever met. She’s not rude or aggressive about it, but she’s decided I’m beneath her notice, and that’s that. It’s good. Safer. It only pisses me off constantly.
“Ain’t a soul who wouldn’t say it’s worth it to help the alpha heir’s mate escape. This is a legendary caper.” His eyes sparkle with genuine glee.
I’m ready. I ease my foot off the clutch, throw the Rover into first, and swallow a fresh wave of nausea as the beast lurches and the engine dies. I’m on my way.
I’ve had to figure out how to prevent drunk scavengers from skinny dipping in the communal pool. Actually, I’ve had to accept that some battles you cannot win.
