I’ll still be a reminder of the guy that stole his fiancée and severely damaged his company at the same time.
Diana is one of the lucky ones, the ones that think money solves everything when more often than not, they have the sort of happiness I can only dream of.
happy family, a fulfilling life, dreams of their own, a path of their own choosing.
Money can buy almost anything, but it can’t buy good health.
“Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t forget you, Diana.”
Eight years. My mother has been in a coma for eight years now, and I’m the only one who still believes she’ll wake up one day.
The day he married my stepmother was the day our insurance company informed me they’d stop paying for my mother’s treatments.
I even would’ve played nice if my stepmother hadn’t asked Dad to stop paying for Mom’s medical bills.
I barely recognize Matthew anymore. I left home as soon as I turned eighteen, but he stayed.
I’ve run through more than eight million dollars in hospital bills over the last six years, often paying roughly two-thousand dollars per day on days that she doesn’t have complications.
She just had to cheat on me with Matthew Rousseau.
every bit of money I could have and should have saved.
She shoots me an apologetic look, but I don’t miss the amusement in her eyes.
could’ve sworn I saw a glimpse of worry for her in his eyes, but it’s gone before I can even blink.
Dad’s eyes widen, and this time, I’m certain it’s concern I see in his gaze — but then Jade tightens her grip on him, and his expression hardens.
“that isn’t a matter related to our family.”
“Jade is right. Elena, it’s time to let your mother go. What you’re doing to her, it’s unnatural, and I want no part of it. Besides, Jade was right to say you left this family yourself. You’re no longer part of this family, and you cannot come back begging for money. I thought I raised you better than that.”
“Dad already has the perfect daughter,” Elise says, “and it isn’t you.”
There’s no condemnation in their eyes, so I wonder if anyone with a card can walk in, and not just those intending to whore themselves out.
I can’t be the first woman who has found herself in this situation.
“Elena, is it? That’s right. Elena Diana Rousseau. I guess you didn’t lie, but you weren’t honest either.”
Why does walking away from Lucian and him hurt just as much as it did six years ago?
Ummm here a thought dumb bitch, maybe it’s because you haven’t seen nor explained WHY you walked out in the first place and now you’re at a gentleman’s club going to sell yourself because your broke and for family issues trying to save yourself dying mommy??
I can’t shake the feeling that something bad is about to happen.
“Mom would kill us if we don’t make sure that she’s okay,” he says. I agree with him, perhaps a bit too quickly.
“Get him out of here before I knock him out. Make sure you escort him to Vaughn’s office.”
I’ve always been one of the few apart from his family that could call him Alec, and it kills me that I’m a stranger to him now. “You’re right, Alexander. We’re not that close. There’s no reason for me to explain to you what I’m doing here. Nor should you care.”
Right now, the outfit makes me feel like a cheap whore. Quite appropriate, I guess.
“I understand you’re here to apply for a position. Vaughn, being the good friend he is, allowed me to conduct your interview on his behalf.”
“I don’t know what you’re doing here, or what has caused you to be in these circumstances. What I do know is that you’re coming home with me.”
I expected her to fight me when I told her she’s coming home with me, but surprisingly, she followed me obediently.
Ummm dude she really doesn’t have any other choice. I wouldn’t want to sell my body either even if it was for someone I loved I wouldn’t still feel ashamed and lose a part of innocence I’d like to hold onto for life.
“How about 20k? You know, I’ve been fantasizing about those lips of yours since that night at Inferno,” he says.
When I came up here with her, this wasn’t what I intended to do at all.
