The line between love and hate is thin. Thinner than one strand of hair. Thinner than paper. Thinner than the petal of a flower.
It’s always been her.
She looks at you with those big, brown eyes, and you melt.
It’s good to know some things will never change. And maybe, just maybe, that’s not such a bad thing.
She’s so accustomed to caring for herself, building walls around her heart to protect what’s left of that innocent girl she couldn’t be, that she doesn’t know how to accept help from those who care. Love and gentleness are almost foreign concepts to her.
She’s genuinely good and pure, and there is something about her that pulls me in and makes me crack stupid jokes just to see her eyes light up and a smile spread on her face.
No boy is worth my tears.
the only boys I talk about are my book boyfriends.
She thinks we aren’t right for each other, that I can’t change, so I’ll show her she’s wrong.
I feel my body relax into his arms.
She waves back, her smile growing bigger, which makes mine do the same.
I can’t help but notice that, although she’s wearing her jacket, it’s left unbuttoned, and underneath, she has my jersey on.
“What’s making you smile like that?”
I should probably pay more attention to what I’m doing, or we’re going to crash, but she’s so pretty I can’t keep my eyes off her.
My hair is messy from Derek’s hands. He has a thing for my hair, I swear.
You’re strong. Don’t let some stupid guy take that away from you. Don’t let him break you.”
“Because the line between love and hate is thin,” I murmur softly. “So fucking thin. And I love you more than I hate you.”
You were supposed to be the first, Amelia. You were supposed to be the first because you’re special.”
Maybe all this time, from when he first broke my heart, and I promised myself I’d never forgive him, I was just waiting for him on the other side of the line.
“You’re so damn cute,”
Seeing her in my home, with my parents… it made me realize that I chose right. The moment was perfect. Lia, she’s perfect.
