“Killing people is one thing but stalking…yeah, no. That’s where he draws the line,” Adam said, voice dripping with sarcasm.
Avi shrugged. “I don’t know. I’ve never, like, interviewed a person we weren’t planning on skewering later. How do you make people tell the truth if you can’t poke at them with pointy things?”
“You really are like a murderous golden retriever,” he mused. Avi barked out a laugh. “I’m a what?” “It’s something one of the guys said about you in the group chat,” Felix said, still wriggling to get out from under Avi’s limbs. “We can snuggle if you just get off me.”
“These people? They’re just background characters. Extras. We’re the main characters. Nobody cares about them.”
“Yes?” Avi asked, looking at Felix like Thomas was the unreasonable one.
“I meant the killing, dummy,” Felix said, soothing his hands through his hair.
“Atticus’s human house plant. The one they buried alive behind the cabin for Zane.” “Oh, yeah,” Felix said. “I wonder how he’s doing?” “Atticus said he finally stopped screaming.” Avi winced as Felix kissed the letters etched on his chest. “That’s nice,” Felix said, dozing off.
“No Disney, either, then,” Avi said. “They’re always murdering the parents.”
And those men were lucky all Felix did was banish them; he wasn’t a very benevolent king. He would happily be yelling, ‘Off with their heads!’ if it wasn’t for prying eyes.
