‘He’s gone,’ Mum says matter-of-factly. ‘Gone where?’ I ask. ‘I’ve saved him.’ ‘From what?’ I continue. ‘From her,’ she says. ‘From you.’ ‘You’re not making any sense. Where’s my son?’ ‘I’m sorry, Finn, it’s too late.’ ‘What is she saying?’ shouts Mia, her fingers no longer wrapped around mine and clutching my arm instead. ‘You know what I’m saying,’ Mum says to Mia. ‘By turning Finn against me, you have taken away something so precious.
