“Simply saying ‘I love you; I’m pleased you’re all right’ would have sufficed, too.”
He held me a little closer, as if comforting himself that I was safe and secure. “Torturing and disemboweling your enemies would be an act of love.”
“Hurry along,” he called over his shoulder. “Some of us have yet to indulge in our baser desires. Murder, unfortunately, seems to be an aphrodisiac only for House Wrath. Surprising to none, actually.”
“You’re the Prince of Sloth,” I said. He inclined his head but didn’t elaborate. “I thought you’d be—” “Lazier?” Lust supplied. “He is, trust me. All he does is lounge about with his books. I bet he hasn’t even stroked his own cock in a decade. Fucking insulting to demons everywhere.”
“Right now, I want the demon, not the prince. Show me why they call you the Wicked.” I grabbed his shirt and tugged him to me, my lips hovering above his. “And don’t you dare hold back.”
He angled his mouth close to me and whispered, “Welcome back, your majesty.”
“And he is her fate. As she is his. ‘As above, so below.’ They are the balance. Light and dark. One fallen from above, and one created in the underworld below.”
