It’s not that I wanted to misbehave, but the most interesting things were always forbidden.
There was no chance of me matching my sisters in looks. Short and stocky as a boy, with carrot-colored hair and a smatter of freckles, I wasn’t even as pretty as Alexei. While I hated hearing the ladies-in-waiting discuss me as if I were a piebald horse standing in the yard, I didn’t entirely mind being ugly.
Everything interesting was always forbidden.
“It hurts because we love him. That’s the balance of life, hard as it is to accept. A heart open to joy is a heart vulnerable to sorrow. There’s no family without loss, no love without pain.”
What I’m trying to illustrate, Anastasia, is that a lust for power will poison your mind. It strengthens you … but bends your sense of what should be traded. Be careful what you allow to shape you. Ruling is a responsibility, and a heavy one. It’s what we owe to the people, not what they owe to us.”
In sum, "with great power comes great responsibilities" - uncle ben (or aunt may, depending on the multiverse)
Cherish what you have, not what you wish for.”
Stay alive, please. I’ve never asked you for anything before. So I may as well start with the hardest and most important thing.
Anastasia ran to me, smiling brighter than the sun. All my jealousy melted like frost. As she held out her hands to me, I wouldn’t have traded places with anybody in the world.

“Do you mind waiting?” Anya asked me. The way she was looking at me, I would have given her the heart out of my chest.
“I use to tell Nina I’d turn my store into her own dressmaker’s shop once we saved a little more money. She made a wedding dress for her best friend that was prettier than anything I’ve ever seen from Madame Bulbenkova. Even if it could never happen … I’m glad we had the dream.”
This hit me deep in the chest.
Even when my grandpa was at his worst with cancer, id tell him to get better soon because he still had to save me a dance at my wedding. i even bought him a tie to wear right before he died.
i knew it wasn't going to happen, but i will always cherish that dream.
Just below the clouds, keeping her distance, I saw a bird alight on the tip of lightning-blasted pine. As she touched down, her left wing gave a slight wobble and she had to catch her balance. My heart twisted in my chest. I knew she could see me ten times better than I could see her.
The tinkling music swelled, and suddenly the whole cavern was full of ghosts, dancing and swirling around me. It was everyone I knew and loved in their last, brightest, happiest moments—Ollie gazing up at Axel, Mama and Papa waltzing together, Aunt Olga with the handsome soldier whose name I’d never learned … And Damien, spinning me around with perfect, flawless steps because he’d practiced, because he’d looked
“I love you …” I whispered against her fire-warmed skin. “I love you, I love you, I love you …”
She was my only touch, only kiss, only love.
Whatever I’d paid, whatever I’d still have to pay, I’d do it again and again and again. I’d choose her every single
