For brevity, usually radio callsigns are truncated to one or two words. So Col. Dawkins could have been just simply Raven or Zulu Raven if he wanted to sound special. The SF guys and even regular troops, don't want to have to send a whole mouthful of words each radio transmission, especially during a firefight.
