My best friend is happy. The woman I love is happy. I can live with a shattered heart if it means theirs get to stay whole.

Of course, there are differences in my relationships with both of them, but I don’t think one is better than the other because the result is the same. With both him and Eric, I’ve felt supported, protected, and safe to be any version of myself.

Dom was the one holding the needle that stitched my heart back together. And he’d done it quietly, carefully, and at great cost to himself because he knew there was no hope in finding the piece of my heart I’d lost four years ago when Eric died, so he gave me pieces of his instead. Using them to put mine back together again, to make me whole. To restore me.
