‘Hey, Rosie?’ he called before crossing the threshold. ‘It’s been great finally meeting Lina’s best friend.’ Finally. He’d said finally.
‘Rosie,’ he half-said, half-slurred in a husky voice. ‘This really you or I did I wake up in heaven?’
‘Ah shit,’ I said under my breath, looking down at my empty mug and the borrowed bills. ‘Lina me va a cortar las pelotas.’
‘You remembered,’ I mumbled in a wobbly voice. ‘Cronuts. From Holy Cronut. Just like I mentioned yesterday.’
‘I promise I will not fall in love with you and make things awkward, Rosalyn Sage.’
‘I’ve never been good with my words, Rosie.’ He came to a stop, his hand brushing my elbow. And only when I turned and met his gaze, he added, ‘But I make up for it with my hands.’
‘Because I would have known then,’ Lucas stepped forward, his chin dipping to look straight into my eyes, ‘that I’d been single only because no one had ever stolen my attention, scattered my thoughts so effortlessly. So completely. Not the way you did.’
