But at that time, all I had to hold on to was my writing, it was my steadying force, and I believed I needed to process my pain through my writing. And I still believed every book needed to be finished. I hadn’t learned yet that not all of my words deserved to be published. Sometimes we write books to learn how to do something we can use for the next book or the book after that. Sometimes we’re making mistakes so that we can learn how to fix them. Sometimes we’re just practicing. And sometimes we just fuck up and need to move on.
