Lately, he didn’t argue with anything I said. He’d become my lapdog, dutifully doing whatever I needed or whatever I said. I thought it was what I wanted. A quiet coexistence. But, truth be told, I missed the spark I used to see in his eyes. I missed who we used to be… Before. Before our world changed. Before he found out I knew his secrets.
My eyes danced between his as I tried to decide if I could trust him. I wanted to so badly, and I knew that was my downfall. I’d always wanted to trust him, even when he’d proven to me why I shouldn’t.
what would be enough. Now, I knew differently. For so long, I’d thought I could love him hard enough to fix him. All the while, he was breaking me.
“You can’t do this. You’re not this person.” “Correction: I wasn’t this person. But you made me into her.”
“Better a widow, with two and a half kids and a dog, than divorced.” She smiled at a joke I didn’t quite understand.
