“So I pick and choose. That’s the point of being a Buddhist.”
“Maybe next time we do something other than Nando’s and Laser Quest though?” “Agreed,” says Bogdan. “Next time perhaps I should choose instead?” “I think that’s for the best, yes,” says Donna. “It’s not my strong point. But you had fun?” “Sure, I liked Laser Quest.” “You really did, didn’t you?” says Donna. “That children’s birthday party didn’t know what had hit them.” “It’s a good lesson for them,” says Bogdan. “Fighting is mainly hiding. It’s good to learn that early.”
“Everyone wants to feel special, but nobody wants to feel different,”
Is this Bogdan’s downside? He’s a serial murderer? That would be tough to overlook. Not impossible though, given those shoulders.
The simple life is all well and good, but, in this moment, with a murder to investigate, and threatening texts arriving daily, Elizabeth realizes that she has missed trouble.
Dots indicate there is a part three.
Chris sees a used condom curled up in a seashell. Life is a miracle.
“We have a habit of interfering,”
Nice cup of tea, isn’t it mild for the time of year, and did you murder someone?”
“Humans can’t be fixed,” says Ibrahim. “We’re not lawnmowers. I wish we were.”
How often do you walk down a new road with an old lover?
“Meanwhile, military maneuvers are continuing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the Serbian secessionist spokesperson initiated interventions with interested intermediaries.”
One thing at a time please, thinks Elizabeth. I’m solving a murder here.
You could see the wife was heartbroken, but she married him, and so she must shoulder some of the blame.
He is, and this is just an opinion, a prince.
Perhaps she should start following him. Is that a bit much? She contemplates for a moment, and decides that, yes, that probably is a bit much. But, really, Elizabeth hates not knowing secrets.
“In therapy you must never waste a crisis.”
“Well, then, I’m a sociopath,” says Connie. “You should try it, it’s very lucrative.”
It is too cold to sit outside, but we can enjoy the view. I hope you like gray clouds and red buses?”
Isn’t everyone doing that all the time? Presenting a certain side of themselves to other people?
Viktor told the concierge that he was dead, and she nodded and asked how long he would be dead for, so he looked at Elizabeth, and she said that a couple of weeks or so should do it.
What is it like to be dead? Is it freeing?”
“And like Dogecoin and Ethereum,” adds Joyce, taking a sip of her tea. “And Binance Coin, which is rocketing up this morning.” Elizabeth looks at her friend. They will have a conversation about this later.
People drift in and out of your life, and, when you are younger, you know you will see them again. But now every old friend is a miracle.
If life ever seems too complicated, if you think no one can help, sometimes the right person to turn to is an eight-year-old.
because it was the first one I was offered and my brain switches off when someone reads me a long list.
This sounds like it might get uncomfortably close to discussing feelings,
Put your gun down; I’m seventy-seven, what do you think I’m going to do?”
we can be friends,” says Viktor. “Or, if not friends, then acquaintances who choose not to kill each other.
“a psychopath would have shot Alan.” Alan gives a happy woof. He likes hearing his name.
Stop thinking about weddings, Chris. Say something to impress Andrew Everton. “I haven’t had a Toblerone for three months now.” “Is that so,” says Andrew Everton. Jesus, Chris.
Ron doesn’t hold with that sort of thing in his head, but there is plenty of room for it in his heart.
What is there in life other than nonsense?
“It’s the people, in the end, isn’t it?” says Viktor. “It’s always the people. You can move halfway around the world to find your perfect life, move to Australia if you like, but it always comes down to the people you meet.”
You keep swimming, my beautiful friend. You keep your head above the water for as long as you can.
