“You hoping to fall, or fly?”
I knew those eyes instantly. They are the color of warm whiskey.
“Goodnight, Aurora.”
“Are you a bad girl, Aurora?”
And for the first time since we met, I see her smile. I think I like it when she smiles.
“I don’t care what Alberto says. Wear your hair curly.”
Life will never be fair.
Angelo Visconti wants me as much as I want him.
“Don’t test me today, Aurora. I’ve spent nine years resisting temptation. You’re making it very hard for me to get to a decade.”
“Because seeing you in your engagement dress is hard enough. But seeing you in your wedding dress?” A growl vibrates deep within me. I tighten my grip. “That’ll be fucking torture.”
But that’s the thing about lines in the sand. Eventually, they wash away, and you can’t remember where you drew them.
“Open the glove box. There’s something in there for you.”
“You’re not thinking straight.” “Yeah, you seem to have that effect on me.”
“Out of all my sins, you’re my favorite.”
“I swear to God, Rory. You better know how to fly, because if you fall, I’m coming with you.”
“Sorry, Magpie. I’m a thug through and through.”
“I’m taking what’s mine”
“But you hate Devil’s Dip.” His eyes harden on the windshield. “But I don’t hate you.”
Nothing and nobody will ever fucking hurt her again.
“I liked that sweater.” “You can have all my sweaters.”
“You’re worth starting a war for.”
“I don’t know what you like yet, so I just got everything.” I laugh into his chest; he smells like bonfire smoke and warm whiskey. “Ham and pineapple, please.” He wrinkles his nose. “Fucking hell. Is it too late to give you back?”
“I have killed every man on this coast that has touched you inappropriately. From Max to my own fucking uncle. These kids are next, and if anybody besides me puts so much of a finger on you from now on, they’ll be killed too.”
Seek hope where the air is salty and the cliffs are steep.
“Shut up, Rory. He left his entire life in England and came back to Devil’s Dip for you. He’s so in love with you that it makes me sick.” “She’s right, I am.”
“I’m a bad man, Magpie.” “And I’m a bad girl. What’s your point?”
“Can’t stop fucking smiling, don’t want to go to sleep because reality is better than your dreams kind of happy. I want to make you so damn happy that you shit sunshine and piss rainbows and people think you’re as high as a kite when you walk into a room.”
“I’ll get on my knees and beg you until you get so sick of me you agree to be mine anyway.”
I know war is coming, but with her, all I know is peace.
He watches me in fascination as I take a long, slow drag. When I exhale, he captures the smoke in his mouth. My breath and his breath, his heart and mine, they are interchangeable now.
