Fuck it, I’m getting out the car.
“Perfect. Now, take three steps to the left.”
The bullet enters Max right between the eyes and exits out the back of his skull,
“The Dip brothers have this hotline. Anyone can dial it and confess their secrets. Max probably called it. Snakes like him usually have a guilty conscience.”
Truth is, I don’t know why the fuck I did it. And the reason I think I did it is utterly fucking insane. Her.
“Goodnight, Aurora.”
“Aurora.”
“I’ll take you to Devil’s Dip.”
“I’ll take her to Devil’s Dip every Wednesday and Saturday.”
And for the first time since we met, I see her smile. I think I like it when she smiles.
“What’s your type, cugino?”
Curly-haired and unavailable.
“Vicious Visconti is back,”
Maybe Vicious never really left.
“You can’t respect him that much. I saw you key his car.”
“When?”
“On Wednesday, when you dropp...

I’m utterly, madly, unacceptably obsessed with Angelo Visconti. My fiance's nephew, near-stranger, and keeper of my darkest secrets.
You. I’d rather kiss you.
There’s a figure standing on the beach. A man. Sharply dressed in a navy suit and a crisp white shirt. My blood runs colder than the water around me. No. It can’t be… But Angelo’s silhouette is impossible to overlook, standing tall and wide against the backdrop of the house. He’s staring straight ahead, feet shoulder-width apart, and his hands are tucked into the pocket of his slacks. I’ve stared at him enough to know it’s definitely him.
He’s touching me.
“If you belonged to me and dressed like that around other men, I’d pull down those skimpy bottoms and spank your ass until it was raw.”
“Aurora.”
“I don’t care what Alberto says. Wear your hair curly.”
“No. You won’t leave her here, not with him.”
“Uncle Al’s fiancee. You can’t take your eyes off her. Staring at her like a lion spotting his prey in the bush. I know you better than you know yourself. You flew in to the Coast because you’re haunted by some unfinished business there. You’re a smart man, so whatever you came back for you’d have figured it in a weekend and flown back to London the first chance you got, if that’s what you wanted to do.” His eyes focus on me. “But it’s not. You saw her, and you decided to stay.” He rakes a hand through his hair, still staring ahead. “You just don’t know it yet.”
One day, Angelo will leave for good without warning and he won’t come back. And that thought shouldn’t make me feel so sick.
“Fucking hell, Aurora. You’re perfect. Of course you’d be perfect.”
The urge to snake my arms around her and drag her into my chest is all-consuming, so I distract myself with a long drag of the cigarette.
I drop my head on top of hers, twisting to breathe in her cherry shampoo. “I’m sorry,” I murmur, my lips brushing over her golden strands.
“I know what it feels like to let down your mama.”
“Promise me something, Rory.”
“What?”
“We’ll find him before you...

But that’s the thing about lines in the sand. Eventually, they wash away, and you can’t remember where you drew them.
“How else am I meant to check out your ass without getting caught?”
“Ask me for a sin.”
“I—What?”
“A sin, Aurora. I know you’re familiar w...

“Okay, tell me a sin, Angelo.”
“I killed my father.”
“I thought he died from a bleed on the brain?”
“He did. I shot him in the head and then his brain bled.”
“But ...

“I killed her too. That’s not my worst sin, though.”
“It’s not?”
