He’s a sultan.
To not spoil, basically the sentence before says someone that caused them harm was sent as a lifelong servant to a sultan in arabia.
Because these are my people, I really get pissy when things are soo wrong. ok in 1878 there was only one sultan and that was Abdul Hamid II. He was in Turkey in Istanbul (and has a nice palace where I got to visit for my dissertation research which was on him). He was not in Arabia. Arabia was in the Ottoman Empire at that time still. His harem (family members and staff l) did have others from outside (like Albania and Georgia) but it’s late 19th century and there’s only 1 Sultan. I know this is probably not popular history but in this case, it’s easy to find info even for all of you non-Turks. Jerkins has great historical writing throughout and lots of research but in this part I wish there was research at this time and who was the sultan and easily found that the residence was not in Arabia but first Dolmabahce Palace and then Yildiz Palace. And that sultan was extremely paranoid , had a huge mounted calvary to escort him a quarter of a mile on Fridays and made his own furniture because he was afraid people would poison him. So not one to have someone as a servant who was rando from America and involved in hurtful stuff to others. I know this is a rando thing to get worked up about but just one of these decades my people won’t either be fetishized or stereotyped as the bad people you can send bad people to be sent to have a bad experience especially if you’re like using that example to send them to not a prison there (ok that stereotype is real) but to the equivalent of a king’s household. It feels like a throw away without research and just reinforcing of stereotypes of Turks or middle easterners still in romance writing.
