As soon as Delilah exits our row, Cory and I both turn to Joel. “Wow!” is all I can say. “I know.” He smiles, but it’s not his usual playful grin. “Why are you not together?” I ask, not even concerned with how that question might sound. It’s Joel. He’s not one to beat around the bush. “It’s a long story.” He sighs, and my heart breaks a little for him. “We have time,” Cory adds, and I can’t help but laugh.
