The truth was, I was embarrassed: as dazzling as it was to haunt the living, it was contemptible too. The ego it took to manifest on earth was reprehensible. Why make such a big song and dance about one individual destiny, even if it happened to be mine? My claim of ownership over Gracie’s life was mortifying.
