All Latinx people knew Vaporú was the cure for everything from a common cold to heartbreak.

Kamilah didn’t have a problem with other folks making their way into the neighborhood, especially if that meant new opportunities and an influx of money. Her issue was that a majority of the original residents were being denied access to those opportunities and the financial possibilities that came with the changes.

One day he was fine, the next day he was dead.” “Wasn’t he hit by a car crossing the street?” Leo asked, placing two glasses back on the shelf. Kamilah hid her laugh behind a cough. Papi nodded. “It doesn’t matter,” Mami exclaimed. “The point is you never know.”
Miss Cucu always thinking she knows better because she went to culinary school.” That was how Mami said couscous. Never mind it also meant something completely different. Her mother was well aware but chose to call her Miss Ass anyway.
“As always, it’s been a real pleasure. Like lighting myself on fire and then trying to put it out with a screwdriver.”
“You are Liam Alexander Kane, and you are your own man. A man who is incredibly smart, talented, creative, and more than capable. Own it. And run this shit like the badass you are.”
At her whispered confession, Liam tightened his arms. He’d always been aware of how much he missed her. Like missing your own bed after traveling or fresh water while marooned on a desert island made up of nothing but rocks and sand.
“You need to learn that shutting the fuck up is free, but constantly talking out of your neck can cost you.”
“I want to strip you bare,” he whispered. “And once you’re naked, I’m going to sit you down on my tasting table and do exactly what its name dictates I do.” Kamilah inhaled shakily. “That’s right. I’m going to taste you. I’m going to savor you like one of my whiskeys, and I’m not going to stop until I’m drunk on you.”
