Just as she prepared to make her own climb, she heard a whirling sound to her right. She jerked her head in the direction of the noise with a gasp. Her suit’s torch shed light on something large and flat disappearing out of view. The tail of a sea creature, maybe? Ellie spun in a half-circle to illuminate the surrounding area, but nothing came into view. She quickly brought out her panel while ignoring the elevated heart rate display in the corner of her helmet. She entered the sonar and waited for the ring to scan the area. “Ellie,” Trevor called out from the top of the ledge. Ellie ignored him and stared at the ring as it widened like a meteor that collided with the earth and its shockwave spread on all sides. Aside from the blue icons representing other FINs and the yellow icon representing Raymond, Ellie saw another dot directly to the right of the center. It was a white dot about a hundred feet away. The sonar pulsated again, this time revealing that the white dot was one hundred and thirty feet away. It was leaving.
