The protective glass encasing was broken. Raymond raised an eyebrow. This was something he’d never seen before. The glass protecting the lights was thick and made of special material that couldn’t be broken easily. Even if a strong aquatic animal ran into it, it wouldn’t break.

The guy was found eight hours later, and it was then determined that he died not of drowning but of stabbing. Apparently, when he realized that he wasn’t going to make it, he used his dive knife to stab himself in the heart to avoid the gruesome death of drowning.
