Every software application and every software service is built on a platform. Often the platform is implicit or hidden, or perhaps not noticed much by the team that builds the software, but the platform is still there. As the philosophical expression goes: it’s turtles all the way down. In a software context, this metaphor means that each platform is itself built on another platform, even if the underlying platform is hidden or implied.
