I never expected to fall for him but here we were. I have fallen in love with my husband. It had been a rough start, an unexpected start, but somehow it had all worked out.
My father was the only person that firmly believed she was alive, and that she was innocent.
If we only prepared for falling in love too. We wanted to bring those fucking ruthless men to their knees and make them pay, but we didn’t count on our hearts paying too.
The naive and scared young woman of barely twenty-one was gone and in her place was a beautiful woman that took your breath away. And I still wanted her, even seeing her with a child by another man. I needed her like the oxygen I breathed.
The moment she had another man’s child, our marriage was history. No, the moment you pulled the trigger, your marriage was history.
“Smells like my wife,” he rasped. “I’m keeping these. I’ll wrap them around my dick later and jerk off thinking about you.”
Self-hatred filled me remembering that day when I pressed the gun to her head. The snowflake on her long eyelashes, love and fear mixing in those eyes. I loved my wife, even back then.
“No one touches what’s mine. No one looks at what’s mine. And Grace is mine, you motherfucker.”
“You touch another man… and you sign his death sentence. I’ll kill any man that you touch.”
Three years ago, I told my husband I loved him. He sent me away. Today he gave me those same words. And I would run away.
Yes, Grace and I had to talk. Lay it all out on the table and fight them together. I couldn’t fault her for her distrust, I earned it. But I’d prove it to her, over and over again for the rest of our lives, that she could count on me.
Grace never betrayed me. Matteo was mine. I hurt my wife and could have cost my son his life.
We have been family all along, but I was too blinded by rage to see it. Now I knew and I wanted to make it all better, enjoy the rest of my life with her. Have more babies, see Matteo grow up to be a good man.
“But you love it,” she murmured. “And I love you, Luciano Vitale.” “I love you, mio Tesoro. From the moment I spotted you.” “All the way then, huh?” “Yes, my love.” This woman could single handedly bring me to my knees. “You are mine, Grace. You’ve been mine from the moment you took your first breath. And you’ll be mine when you take your last breath.”
