Despite the fact that he had been my friend the longest out of anyone in our group of four, Shaw Bishop had always been the most closed off. He rarely spoke, and I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen him smile, but he was loyal as hell, and living in this shithole neighborhood, a loyal friend was not something you threw away.
Meredith wiped under her eyes and shook her head at me. “Oh, princess… you’re too cute. They’re going to fall all over you.”

Hand still pressed to my heart, Vail leaned in, his lips brushing over mine, while his other hand cupped my cheek and murmured, “We’re your family now.” Without another word to me, he let go, striding away with a new purpose, his posture confident and ready.
It was like we could feel what the other wanted, and it was reciprocated. “You know why I won’t let you go?” he whispered at last. My head was spinning from that kiss, so lost in the moment that I couldn’t even remember my own name right at that second. I gave my head a little shake. The hand on my throat moved up and cupped my cheek, his thumb lightly stroking it, and murmured, “Because my heart aches for you, my soul cries for you. I need you and you need me. I’ve loved you from the very first moment, Casey. That’s never changed.”
I debated back and forth with myself, my pussy begging for attention, while my brain was telling her to calm the fuck down and just go to sleep.
He stared down at me in a way that made me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world, and not just some teenager in ripped boyfriend jeans and a t-shirt with her purple hair tossed up in a messy bun.
“And brace yourself, darling. Lee might have had his fun, but you’re still standing. When I’m through with you, you won’t be able to walk for days.”

Yeah, yeah, the whole, if you love something, you let it go, spiel. I fucking hate that saying. It’s bullshit. If you love something, you hold onto it for dear life. There was too much bad shit in this world. That was why when you found something good, you kept it close, cared for it, and loved it with everything you had.
