Seattle, known as the Emerald City because of its greenery scenery, is named after an Indigenous man who died without being able to ever step foot in the city again. His people to this day have also not received tribal federal recognition. Many cities continue to bury Indigenous history because acknowledging it will bring out many injustices that have been taken against the Indigenous peoples whose lands cities are built on. However, this history needs to be acknowledged in order to address the hurt and harm that has been caused against Indigenous peoples since colonialism.
