Claude Monet, van Gogh’s contemporary, painted around 2,500 paintings over the course of sixty years. Paul Cézanne painted nine hundred canvases over forty years. On average Rembrandt completed fifteen canvases per year; Monet, forty-two; and Cézanne, twenty-three.
