It comes down to making good choices, consistent with your compass and what you value. Many successful and happy artists, poets, and writers, who live to paint, rhyme, and write, choose to do these things on their own terms, not on the market’s. If they cared about money, the market’s measure of value, they’d have to paint what people wanted to buy (black-velvet paintings of dogs playing poker, anyone?). Or they would have to write stories that they know they could sell (click-bait stories of over-Botoxed celebrities behaving badly, anyone?). They choose not to do this. They choose to be true
