“Oh, no rose could compare to you. For a rose is beautiful, Lady of Starlight, but it has no secrets to uncover. No mysteries to unfold. You are a thousand questions and a million truths just out of my reach.”
“What are you doing, you scaly bastard?
“No.” He touched a finger to the tip of her nose. “I don’t care for the King. I don’t care for his line or for anyone he has bid me to protect. Not until you.”
“Abraxas? Please tell me you’re still alive. Open your eyes, darling. I know how to fix this.”
“Lady of Starlight,” he murmured, then stepped so close she could count the gold flecks in his eyes. “My fire heart. Live for me, and I will lay a kingdom at your feet.”
He already felt the beating thrum of the mate bond in his chest. One he wouldn’t ignore.
His little fire heart had grown wings.
“Lore...” Her name on his tongue was a whispered hymn. “You have etched your name on my soul. What kind of world would this be if you were not in it? Lady of Starlight. My Fire Heart.”
