I hope you never know what it’s like to have to pretend to be okay when your entire world feels like it’s falling apart.

After all, Haitian women and women of faith are taught that anything sexual, especially self-pleasure is wrong and disgusting.

Growing up in a society where the way you dress, the places you go, and the things you do define who you are or the way people choose to view and judge you, it was liberating not to have to think about that or care for that matter.

By the end of the ecstatic dance, we were hugging one another as if we had known each other. We had created a connection through dance,

and never once had we spoken to each other, but we understood one another through our movements and body language.
