There is a basic rule of nature. No living thing sacrifices itself or hurts itself needlessly.
“I think, young man, that you only run into a person that is a perfect fit once in your life. When you find the one that you think fits, then grab on for dear life. And it’s no matter what she’s done in the past. None of that matters. Only the holding on matters.”
“Look, sorry I was an asshole before,” Bosch offered. “Don’t worry about it, partner,” the guard replied. “It gets to the best of us.” Bosch wondered what the “it” was he was talking about but said nothing. He nodded solemnly, as if he got most of his life lessons from security guards.
“The past is like a club and you can only hit yourself in the head with it so many times before there is serious and permanent damage.
