Great addition to the Robicheaux stories. His writing to me never ceases to surprise with its unlikely lyrical turn of phrase. I was interested that one of the main characters, who is an author, says that what he thought was his best book namely "White Doves in Mourning" is the least read. "White Doves in Mourning" is of course a title written by none other than James Lee Burke himself, and I have always thought that, indeed it IS his best work. If you haven't read it, I recommend it. Caveat-it's a completely different theme in many ways, though harking back to many a historically based remark in his other novels.
