For that kind of inaction reveals what we really think of God, that he is a legalistic moral policeman waiting for us to slip up just so that he can make his arrest quota for the day. What could be more cynical? Of course that God was not Bonhoeffer’s God—and is not God at all. Did not Jesus heal on the Sabbath; and did not David’s men eat the shewbread in the temple? There are times when our faith may look like a lack of faith to some people. But what does it look like to God? That is the question.
