Out of this Sunday school class grew something else: the Thursday Circle, a weekly reading and discussion group of young men he personally selected, which met at his home and which he taught. He issued invitations to this group, which began in April 1927. The invitations stated that the group would meet “Every Thursday 5:25–7:00 p.m.” Bonhoeffer did it of his own accord; it had no connection to his church obligations.
