Prologue

Before even starting, I just want to applaud the book for how well I remember certain imagery, a decade after last reading it. I have a very clear picture of a dead rabbit outside the gates, Sabriel's sash of bells, and the river of the dead, with its corresponding tiers. I have no idea what the plot is though.

“Time is strange between the kingdoms,” Horyse said. “We’ve had patrols swear they were out for two weeks, coming back in after eight days. A headache for the paymaster . . .”
