“You need to stop looking at me like that,” Einar said roughly, breaking the silence. I jolted from my reverie. “Like what?” I asked, my cheeks heating. Giant’s teeth, had I been staring at him that long? “Like you want to lick me from head to toe.”
I’d never seen anything so beautiful, or so deadly, in my life.
The last thing I needed was for her to feel safe around me, because that was the next step toward developing feelings. And if Adara began to care for me in any way, my chances of severing the mating bond between us were doomed.
had to admit she was intriguing, though. Aside from the fact that she could wield fire and ice—an impossibility, according to the laws of elemental magic—she was clearly a skilled fighter, and on top of that, she seemed to have herbalism skills. She was a pretty package wrapped in a shroud of mystery, and despite myself, I wanted to penetrate those layers, to solve the puzzle she so clearly represented.
I wanted to tell her she was breathtaking, that she should never feel the need to hide or change herself for the sake of pleasing others. That she was perfect just the way she was.
To be gifted the thing I’d once wanted most in the world, under such tragic circumstances, was almost more than I could bear.
