“May your flame never go out,” he said gruffly. “May your fire shine brightest in the dark,” she returned.
I rushed over to the fae—my mate, an inner voice in my head reminded me—and dropped to my knees beside her, then hauled her head into my lap.
“Those sound like aural lights.” Aural lights were the work of the Radiants, beings of light who watched over our world.
It was a good thing the general did not know that this was not the true Spear of Destiny,
“You need to stop looking at me like that,” Einar said roughly, breaking the silence. I jolted from my reverie. “Like what?” I asked, my cheeks heating. Giant’s teeth, had I been staring at him that long? “Like you want to lick me from head to toe.”
it was almost like a purr, a subconscious resonance of satisfaction. As if holding me in his arms brought him peace.
He kissed me with the hunger of a raging firestorm, illuminating the night with its brilliance and devouring everything in its path. I felt like a pile of kindling struck by lightning—abruptly alive and burning with a fierce flame that threatened to consume me whole.
He gave Rachis a flirtatious wink that made the jealousy monster in my chest snap her vicious teeth, and I scowled, annoyed at my internal reaction.
“But if I remember correctly, harpies kill their mates when they finish with them, and I, unfortunately, would like to live.”
