"Enough!" I hear Blaise shout.  Lilith loses her grip but doesn't let up.  "Get lost." Lilith snarls at Blaise, before spinning me around and slamming me against my locker.  "I said, enough!" Blaise bares his teeth, fists balled at his sides. Would he really hit a girl? Would he really hit someone to help me? “You know the rules. Now back the fuck off.”

Blaise towers over me, pinning me with a scathing glare. "You done fucked up, Penny."  My stomach somersaults. I think he's right. Fighting back against Lilith James is a mistake. But, I don't regret it. Not even a little bit.

Blaise finally stops looking at me and grabs a girl walking by. I'm not even sure who she is. I think she might be a senior cheerleader. She giggles as he grabs her by the ass and walks behind her, whispering something in her ear over her shoulder.  Once he’s done breathing down her neck, he looks back at me and winks. He's a damn sociopath. And I've got to live with him.

I guess I got the answer. They're together. Blaise is dating my former best friend—and he just kissed me—and I kissed him back.

Is that really all it took for him to shut the hell up? Me standing up for myself?

Temptation has always been a bitch to me. I already know the answers to all the questions she likely has. I’ll go as far as she lets me because her body is my weakness. I’ll devour her mouth and leave her breathless. And, she will let me. Penny will never deny me. No matter how much she hates me, I am her kryptonite and she is mine.

“Why are you so mad?” she asks in a whisper.  “Why am I so mad?” I come back up, with squared shoulders, as I walk into her again. Hands at my sides as my mouth touches her forehead. Enraged, I shout, “Because he forced you to…” I can’t even say it. “Because, no one is allowed to touch you but me.” I can’t even think straight. The thought of what he did makes me crazy and knowing that it actually happened makes me want to cut somebody.

This is exactly why I didn’t want her to come back to this town. She should have stayed in Portland. This is why she has to hate me. It’s why I can’t love her like I want to.

“Listen, shithead,” I hear Blaise say under his breath. “You stay away from my sister or you’re dead.”  Humiliation chews on my insides. Not only did he just threaten Paxton, he also referred to me as his sister. After all we’ve been through—all we’ve done—he still thinks of me as the kid of his dad’s widow.  Everything has changed for me, but it’s all still the same for him.

“It’s only our second night here. I prefer not to break the rules so soon.”  “That’s the thing about rules.” His hand skates up my shirt, leaving a trail of goosebumps in the path of his fingers. “They’re made to be broken.”

I never planned on this. Never thought the man of my dreams was living two stories beneath the bedroom he taunted me in. I fell for the most unexpected person and at the most unexpected time. That’s the beauty of this thing between us, it never stops surprising us.  I met the devil when I was fourteen years old. By the time I was eighteen, I was madly in love with him.
