In Defense of Witches: The Legacy of the Witch Hunts and Why Women Are Still on Trial

These days, witches are everywhere. In the US, they take part in the Black Lives Matter movement, put spells on Donald Trump, protest against white supremacists and against those who question a woman’s right to abortion.

Paradoxically, magic now seems a very pragmatic solution, a life-affirming jump-start, a way of anchoring ourselves in the world and in our own lives at a time when everything seems to be conspiring to destabilize us and exploit our vulnerabilities.
