Entire family lines were wiped out: the charges were not very clear against Magdelaine Denas, who at seventy-seven was burned as a witch in the Cambrésis region of Northern France in 1670, but her aunt, mother and daughter had already been executed and it was thought that witchcraft was hereditary.18
