Her gift of stealth, however, was how she came to be called Death’s Shadow.
Nuri was watching you, it was likely your death was near.
Many knew Nuri’s name. Few knew she was Death’s Shadow.
“Because when we stop growing and learning, we start dying.
“I know you will be just fine alone, Scarlett Monrhoe. You are strong and wicked and brilliant.”
“But maybe, just maybe, alone is not where you are supposed to be either.”
“Death’s Maiden is before you, and my sister is ten times as terrible as I am.”
Of the three Wraiths of Death, Death’s Maiden was the most feared. Death’s Shadow tracked you, and Death Incarnate ended you, but in between those two things, you dealt

“It matters because I like kissing you. It matters because I do not know if I am just another person you are using to gain information. It matters because your friends are concerned about you and that makes me concerned about you. It matters because I have to return home soon, and the thought of not seeing you any more is as unpleasant as it was for me
to hear you tell the mortal prince you will go to him tomorrow night.”
“If you leave here, if you go to him, the stars will go out.”
“There was only one star left anyway.”
“You are far more powerful than you realize, Scarlett. If you decide to fight, I will be by your side in an instant. I will find the light.”
Only she had done this to keep him safe.
“Scarlett Monrhoe, I would cross deserts and oceans for you. I would cross the realms for you. Did you really think a mortal man could keep you from me?”
